Red wine toasted as prevention for cancer

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit distributed free Seeds of Hope bookmarks to area gardening centres this past weekend. The bookmarks include a special sticker with a breast cancer symbol made entirely out of seeds. When peeled off and planted, the sticker will yield a fresh bouquet perfect for the gardener in your family.

“Through Seeds of Hope we are trying to grow awareness among women everywhere of the importance of breast screening in maintaining life long health,” said Anne-Marie Cyr, managing of Tobacco and Cancer Prevention Programs with the HKPR District Health Unit.

Breast cancer survivor Sylvia Hall knows the importance of annual breast screening and early detection. She is dedicated to helping other women by spreading the message of prevention.

“Education is key to fighting this disease. Many women such as myself would not be alive today without early detection and proper treatment. There is life after breast cancer,” she said.
