Ultrasound Improves Detection of Breast Cancer

Researchers affiliated with the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) trial have reported that the addition of ultrasound to mammography significantly increases the number of breast cancers detected in high-risk women but also increases the number of false-positive tests. The details of this randomized study appeared in the May 14, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.1

LPGA Competitors and Friends Come Together for Breast Cancer

Ninth annual LIFE Event brings another $500,000 to the cause; funds benefit the Val Skinner Foundation and programs that drive “Young Women’s Initiative.” PARAMUS, N.J., May 20

PARAMUS, N.J., May 20 /PRNewswire/ — Thirty-two LPGA pros including world no. 1 Lorena Ochoa, Hall of Fame members, Beth Daniel and Karrie Webb, and top-ranked players such as Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford, Brittany Lincicome, Nicole Castrale and Sherri Steinhauer came together for the ninth annual LIFE (LPGA Pros in the Fight to Eradicate Breast Cancer) Event on May 19. The event, hosted by LPGA veteran Val Skinner, raised $500,000 for the breast cancer fight. This year’s event brings the cumulative funds raised by LIFE for the breast cancer cause to $4.5 million. Charity event raises money, awareness for breast cancer

PARAMUS, N.J. -­ The bone-chilling gusts that topped 30 mph made the Monday-morning mercury that never climbed out of the 40s feel even colder.

Steel-gray skies shrouded Ridgewood Country Club with an ominous canopy that at one point pelted sleet upon the 30 LPGA players sacrificing a day off for charity. The cold, however, did nothing to temper the warm hearts and generous intentions of those rallying to raise funds to fight breast cancer, a disease all LPGA players have known someone battle, both successfully and not, and a disease whose threat they all live under.
